Volunteers working to restore the machine to be used in MD.

Jamie Haislip has gone from playing with model trains as a child to work with a 44-ton train as an adult.

52-year-old electrical contractor recently purchased 1949 locomotive diesel engine, which is now in line in Walkersville Southern Railroad, where he worked as a volunteer.

The machine has some rust and crack windows. It takes a lot of work to be fully functional but it runs, and hope to have it Haislip and runs as part of the WSR next year.

"I want to keep it, I don't want to see it go into a pile of rubbish," said Haislip. "I've been following the train throughout my life, but this is the first machine I've owned."

Haislip standing in front of the engine 2-foot-high, 25-foot-long on some Sunday morning when he spoke. He is getting ready to ride the train's engine as well as other travel destinations. WSR operates in much of the route between Frederick, Walkersville and offers panoramic views of the travel and tourism, as the train rides with Santa and dinner trains.
